Blogs fit well for me between Twitter on one side and published online media on the other side. Twitter is important to me as a portal to news, events, websites, and pithy comments. But the tweets are ephemeral. Published media provides an edited professional perspective on subjects. But blogs allow a personalized in-depth view of a subject, easily using integration of media such as photographs or videos to illustrate the points to be made. Blogs also provide an outlet for creative intelligent writing, and I especially look for blog postings that exemplify these qualities.
This blog posting inviting all of us to eat our way through Hanoi in its 1,000th year is a perfect example of the best of blogging. Beside superb writing, it integrates beautiful photographs to entice us to take up the invitation to visit Hanoi this year. It personifies the passion that the writer and photographers have for their adopted city of Hanoi. The photo below is from the posting.
Mark Lowerson of Stickyrice and Van Cong Tu of Vietnamese God collaborated on the photos and Mark is the eloquent writer.
