The Lonely Planet Guide to Vietnam describes Hoi An, a small town south of Danang, as a living museum. Over 800 structures dating from the first half of the 19th century have been restored, with most of them adapted for use as restaurants or shops.
The architecture of these structures range from Chinese styles to French colonial styles to Vietnamese historical styles. Since this was the first Chinese settlement in Vietnam, much of the architecture is Chinese in inspiration.
