We stopped off in Nha Trang between Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City. I wanted to go there to taste its famous seafood, and Hien remembered Nha Trang as a fine beach vacation location. And both were true.
Nha Trang is the home of fellow blogger Vietnamese God. He now spends most of his time in Hanoi, but I enjoy reading his happy insights on Vietnamese life.
You can see by this picture that Nha Trang might be a bit like Honolulu in the 1950s perhaps -- a fine beach and city infrastructure awaiting further development. And it will happen -- there are three or four new high-rise hotels under construction. These are urban hotels like in Honolulu. Resorts are available elsewhere up and down the Vietnamese coast (look for the best of them to come in Quy Nhon in a year or two.)
The thing to do here is to hop on a boat for a cruise to the islands off-shore and partake of swimming, snorkeling, diving, eating, and drinking.
And the seafood here was superb -- many restaurants display the fresh seafood on ice out front on the street -- you pick the exact item you want and then head for a table. They deliver the food to you cooked just the way you had asked.
