We are back in San Francisco after two weeks in southern China, three weeks in Vietnam, and a week in Branson, Missouri.
We still intend to relocate to Vietnam soon -- the date is up in the air for awhile, but it will be mid-January at the latest. Rather than relocate to Hanoi, where I might prefer to live, we will probably settle into Ho Chi Minh City because that is where business is most active by far, and our initial projects will most likely be around HCMC and in Quy Nhon, which is easily accessible from HCMC.
My developer client is in HCMC at this time trying to tie up our first projects in Quy Nhon as well as lay the basis for HCMC projects. Development anywhere requires a great deal of patience and perseverence to negotiate deals and entitlements, but here it is moreso with the participation of many agencies including the central government. It is taking longer than originally thought to get project approvals, contracts and retainer payments, and financing.
We are anxious to get back to Vietnam as soon as possible and settle into the new life for a couple of years. In the meantime, I am hoping for a business trip between now and Christmas time to help get these projects started.
I still have a lot of photos and commentary to post on our Vietnam travels and will keep posting through this interim period.
